Since 1984, I have spoken at Project Management events first as part of my role as the president of HMS Software, and later because of my extended experience in project management systems and processes. My experience over the last 30 years in enterprise timesheet, enterprise project management, portfolio management systems and my work with organizations both small and large in how to improve their business management performance has formed the core of most of my speaking topics.
To introduce myself further, I am the President and founder of HMS Software, based in Montreal. I have an economics degree from McGill University and over 35 years of experience in creating and deploying project systems on some of the world’s most recognized projects. Deploying enterprise project and portfolio prioritization environments for projects such as the CF-18 fighter aircraft upgrade with Bombardier, the James Bay Hydro development and the Hibernia Offshore GBS. On these projects and many more I have helped deliver systems, business processes, training and expertise .
You may have seen some of my writing on project management or business topics. I have been published in publications including Fortune Magazine, the Western University’s Ivey Business Journal, the Project Management Institute’s PMNetwork magazine, Computing Canada, Chief Project Officer magazine, the American Management Association’s Handbook on Project Management and Project Times. I run the popular blog EPMGuidance and have been called upon frequently to write on Microsoft’s Technet site for Enterprise Project Management called “From the Trenches“.
I have been a long standing member of the Project Management Institute, the American Association of Cost Engineers, and the Microsoft Project Users Group. I have consulted a number of project management system vendors including Deltek and Oracle and spent 5 years on the Microsoft Enterprise Project Management Partner Advisory Council.
