Ok, it’s a strange title for a blog post but so is the circumstance. It’s been a busy but great 4 weeks.  First, we received a couple of fabulous testimonials at HMS from our clients.  ASL Environmental Sciences sent the first one.  They’re an Oceanographic specialist based in western Canada.  Then another great letter comes in from ESI Inc. of Tennessee.  Both are delighted clients and that makes our day around here. This article discusses how to identify a project which should be cancelled, distinguish it from a project that is merely troubled and then if need be, actively cancel a project in a way that is empowering to the project team, the organization, the stakeholders and even the project manager.

Written originally over 10 years ago, this article is still particularly current today. Most project management tools written originally in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s were based on the Critical Path Methodology paradigm. They were fundamentally scheduling tools. Yet, the practice of project management has becmoe so much more.
